		<description>Heather, I agree that when cheer leading does not resemble an athletic team in terms of purpose (to win v. standing on sidelines to rouse the crowd), competitive level, training, and commitment it should not be counted. However, there are many competitive cheer squads that are very much like a basketball team in these respects. I think the day will come within the next 5 years where cheer squads will be counted, and should be. Good to see you post once again! -nml</description>

		<description>It&#039;s a huge step forward that cheerleading cannot be counted toward Title IX compliance. Many cheerleading programs are sparsely funded and allow a herd of women to join. In the past, this allowed athletic departments to count a large number of cheerleaders as female athletes to offset the large roster for football while the investment in the programs was hardly comparable. Does this strategy sound familiar? Ah yes it should. It should sound like ROWING!</description>
